/ Descriptif :
A silver-gilt and polychrome enamel travelling pyx in
the neo-gothic style, set with precious stones and pearls, with
it's original leather carrying case. The round body surmounted by
a small cross, and supported on a baluster stem and folding quadruped
base.
Une pyxide de voyage en argent et émail champlevé
dans le style néo-gothique, enrichie de perles et de pierres
précieuses, dans son écrin de cuir d'origine. Le corps
rond s'ouvre en deux et est surmonté d'une petite croix.
Le fût balustre repose sur quatre pieds pliables.

Placide Poussielgue-Rusand was one of the most important French
nineteenth-century church silversmiths. He exhibited and won awards
at the Universal Exhibitions of 1878, 1889 and 1900. He often worked
with Viollet le Duc, and his work can be found in many important
cathedral and church collections. Amongst many other pieces, Poussielgue-Rusand
made the reliquary for the original crown of thorns, which in the
treasury of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. Another example of this
travelling pyx, (with different coloured enamel), is in the collection
of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. (M28.1983)
Placide Poussielgue-Rusand était un des plus importants
orfèvres d'église français au dix-neuvième
siècle. Il a exposé avec honneurs aux expositions
universelles de 1878, 1889 et 1900. Il a travaillé avec Viollet
le Duc et ses pièces se trouves dans les collections des
églises etcathédrales importants. Entre autres, Poussielgue-Rusand
est le fabricant du reliquaire des épines du vrai croix,
maintenant dans le trésor de la cathédrale de Nôtre
Dame à Paris. Un autre pyxide similaire, (avec des couleurs
différents d'émail), se trouve dans la collection
du musée Victoria & Albert à Londres. (M28.1983)
