Further information / Renseignements complémentaires :
The Maison Cardeilhac, founded in 1804, were originally coutelliers and were known for the quality of their work. It was in the London exhibition of 1862 where Cardeilhac won its first medal in the cutlery section. In 1889 in Paris he won a silver medal in the silversmithing section and a Grand Prix in the cutlery section.
Ernest Cardeilhac was the president of the jury for the cutlery section at the Exposition Universelle Internationale of 1900, and was therefore hors concours. His work was highly praised in the reports. A 'boite à poudre' of related design was exhibited in the 1990-1991 exhibition 'de Manet à Matisse' at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
